Smart and Innovative Tourism in the Oulu Region (STORe)

The vision of the Smart and Transformative Oulu Region (STORe) group project is to meet the challenges of sustainable tourism development and to make the Oulu region a significant international pioneer of sustainable tourism in Europe.

The common objectives of the project

The common objectives of the project are:

develop a region-wide SDG development programme,
pilot and develop tourism products for regenerative and transformative tourism based on or combining natural or cultural sites in the region, and
introduce knowledge management tools in the Oulu region and improve the region's capacity to use tourism data from different sources to anticipate demand, trends and customer behaviour and to grow a successful international tourism business.

The third theme falls entirely under the responsibility of Oulun Matkailu Oy's work packages. Among other things, developments are underway to create a regional information dashboard that will provide industry insights to private and public stakeholders and citizens. This will include the development of websites and e-commerce. A better understanding of our visitors and the ability to predict future trends will be shared among all actors.

The aim is to promote the growth of the region and tourism businesses

The aim of the project is to promote the growth, skills, competitiveness and operational security of the region and tourism businesses in the international tourism sector. The range of products and services in the region will be better adapted to the demand of current and future tourism trends. The launch of new tourism products will aim to diversify and improve business opportunities for enterprises. The project will create a strong foundation and direction for responsible, inclusive and transformative nature and culture tourism in the Oulu region.
